v. Obscene or Pornographic Material Issues include use of university computers or other resources
to access, view, download, store or send obscene, abusive, or pornographic documents, messages
(including jokes), files, images, emails, videos, music, or links to any website featuring sexual,
pornographic or obscene messages or images, absent legitimate business need (academic
research or curriculum or as part of a disciplinary investigation). However, such need must be
disclosed in advance to supervisor. Employees who receive such material unsolicited or
inadvertently must report the receipt to their system administrator or Information Security, and
take steps to avoid offending others with the received material (for example, by not forwarding or
displaying it).
w. Office of Professionalism and Ethics (OPE) is a centralized clearinghouse for complaints and the
subsequent tracking of those complaints. It also oversees investigations at USC, including both
campuses and all university programs and affiliates.
x. Office of Equity and Diversity (OED) handles all issues related to harassment, assault or
discrimination based on a protected category in which the respondent is staff, faculty, or an
unaffiliated individual who offends against a staff or faculty.
y. Title IX Office handles issues related to harassment, assault or discrimination based on a
protected category in which the respondent is a student or an unaffiliated individual who offends
against a student.
z. Office of Conduct, Accountability, and Professionalism (OCAP) investigates significant or
pervasive conduct not related to a protected class that impacts the work or academic space and
which requires investigation beyond the normal scope of Human Resources.
aa. Office of Internal Audit handles complaints related to internal misappropriation of assets or
internal controls.
bb. Office of Ethics and Compliance handles complaints related to conflicts of interest, privacy and
security laws, health care billing, and misconduct related to research grants, and Code of Ethics
violations not within another office’s jurisdiction.
cc. Office of Athletic Compliance handles complaints related to athletic policies and procedures,
such as NCAA, PAC-12, and USC rules.
dd. Patient Health or Wellbeing Issues include actions or omissions that directly or indirectly cause
harm or have the potential to harm (for example, medication errors, gross negligence, improperly
performed medical procedures, performance of medical procedures not trained and/or licensed
